QUOTES FROM THE SALAF AND THE SCHOLARS: 'TEN REASONS OUR DU'A ARE NOT ACCEPTED'
One day, the honorable taabi'ee Ibraaheem bin Adham رحمه الله passed by the market place in Basrah, and the people said to him: "O Aba Ishaaq, indeed Allaah The Most High has said (which translates to mean):
' And your Lord has said call on me, and I will respond to you." سورة غافر 60
"We called on Allaah, and He didn't respond to us."
فقال: لأن قلوبكم ماتت بعشرة أشياء:
He said: "Indeed your hearts have died with 10 things":
1. You know Allaah, and don't perform His rights,
2. You recite the Qur'aan and don't act with it,
3. You claim you love his messenger and abandon his sunnah,
4. You say that shaytaan is an enemy to you, but you agree with him,
5. You say you yearn for the paradise, and have not worked for it,
6. You say that you indeed fear the hellfire, and have not evaded it
7. You say that death is the haqq, and have not prepared for it,
8. You busy yourself with the defects of the people and abandon your own,
9. You eat the blessings of Allaah and do not perform gratitude for it,
10.You bury your dead and do not shed tears for them(or take a lesson with them just being buried),
فكيف يستجاب لكم؟
So how could Allaah respond to you?
