FATWA: ADVICE
A Question for Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool ﺣﻔﻈﻪ اﷲ :
How can a Muslim be safe from those desires that lead astray?
In the Name of Allaah The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy To proceed:
The response from this question: Safety is with the following affairs:
The First Affair: That he sticks to the manhaj of the pious predecessors may Allaah be pleased with them.
The Second: That he abandons the desires and temptations of the shaytaan.
Third: That he avoids the bid’a and newly invented matters in the deen.
Fourth: That he sticks to the scholars of sunnah and Ahlus Sunnah and make them (the scholars) a point of reference for himself.
Fifth: That he accompanies the followers of the pious predecessors and not be a loner, for indeed the wolf eats from the sheep that are secluded.
The Six: That he is far from Ahlul Bid’a and their sittings and from listening to them. From that which is crucial is that he avoids ahlul bid’a or people of desires those in which outwardly manifest the sunnah with their differing and opposition to the truth; indeed these ones are immensely harmful in these times; because they deceive many of the youth of the followers of the pious predecessors sadly. Many of the youth are deceived by the likes of these.(1)
Also from the affairs specific upon the safety from this affair:
Seven: Is that what is transmitted from the Prophet ﺻﻠﻰ اﷲ ﻋﻠﯿﻪ وﺳﻠﻢ that he ask Allaah firmness upon the Haqq.
The Eighth: Of which the scholars have laid down that the Haqq isn’t dependent on men, rather the Haqq is known, therefore follow it and it’s people as Allaah the Mighty and Lofty has said: ” when it’s said to them: ‘Follow what Allaah has sent down.’ They say: “Never! We shall follow what we found our fathers following.” Even though their fathers did not understand anything nor were they guided?” 2:170 Therefore, Allaah the Mighty and Lofty ordered them with following the Haqq, therefore they made the Haqq dependent upon men and therefore went astray and Allaah knows best.

(1.) Shaykh Muqbil رﺣﻤﻪ اﷲ mentioned something similar, when he said in his advice for the students of knowledge:
-Being far from the people of bid’a and their books and the evil scholars and their books…
-The adherence of the sittings of the righteous and the virtuous as Allaah the Glorified and Exalted has said: “And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face; and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world and obey not him whose heart We have heedless of Our remembrance, an follow his own lust and whose affair (deeds) has been lost.” 18:28
