“Knowledge begins by the attainment
of the small (issues) before (entering into) the big (issues). If you have
attainted (and mastered) the small issues before the big issues, then verily
you are on the path of knowledge. However, if you begin by
plunging into the major issues which require (extensive) research and the (proper)
arrangement (of related information) and wherein the Scholars have disputed in;
(if you plunge into these issues) as some of the students of knowledge or
novice to knowledge have done, without knowing the small and clear issues, then
knowledge will leave from you (i.e. you will not accomplish much in the fields
of study).
Thus, I stress the gravity of
attaining knowledge by taking things step by step; for verily knowledge is sought
(gradually) through the passing of days and night.”
The Shaikh (hafithahullah) also
added:
“Knowledge necessitates constant follow up, memorization, review
and study without losing hope and feeling despair. Rather, it is a must that
you take things step by step beginning with that which is most important (only
to move on) to that which follows it in importance. (If this is done) verily
you will attain from knowledge that which Allah wills.”
