Warning Against Shakhsiyyah Which Possibly Leads to Ubudiyyah

Shaykh Rabee ibn Hadi al-Madkhali حفظ الله ورعاه said: I emphasize that we - All praise for Allaah - do not accept the error of any scholar, not Ahmed bin Hanbal, nor Ibn Taymiyah, ibn Abdil Wahabرحمهم الله. And those who put forward the statement of anyone from them(the scholars), over the saying of Allah and His Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم, we say to him what Ibn Abbas said:

"Stones are about to descend down upon you from the heavens! I say to you what was said by the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم, and you say what Abu Bakr and Umar said?!" (1.)

TN: Here you have a great mountain of knowledge, Ash-Shaykh Rabi' حفظه الله ورعاه من كل سوء ومكره making emphasis on not blindly following any scholar, no matter how great his status may be. Why? Because if there is not with him and or those with him any evidence, we reject it, because the evidence(s) has more right to be followed and not the scholar (or person) respectfully. In contrast, you find people blindly following every Ahmad and Zayd saying: "Shaykh such and such is a great Imaam, how can you reject his disparagement?!" or "Rejecting his disparagement is rejecting him?!" or "If you don't accept his disparagement then we don't accept you!"and, and, and. Look, you have this great Imaam and mountain of knowledge shaykh Rabi', advising us how to act, even if it is against great scholars in the deen. Yet, you see people adhering to personalities, rather than the evidence. No one is ma'soom (infallible) in the deen, except Rasulallaah صلى الله عليه وسلم. Yet, you see people sticking to personalities, instead of sticking to the text. The scholars get a reward even if they err. We, on the other hand, have to compensate for our errors. Ash-Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan حفظه الله mentioned in his explanation of The Three Fundamental Principles: "The scholars are not the evidence in and of themselves, only clarifiers of the evidence."A true adherent of Ad-Dawatus Salafiyyah does not fear the blame of the blamers and does not "fall in line" or "get in where they fit in" and say within themselves: "Even though I know that Shaykh such and such didn't provide any evidence, I will fall in line so that I will not be an outcast amongst the Salafiyeen." or "If I go against the grain and stand on the evidence like a man, they may prevent me from teaching." or "If I say something, I may upset them and I'm too scared to do so." These and other such statements we hear today, amongst some of the people. So we likewise say to you what ibn Abbass رضي الله عنهم said: "Stones are about to descend down upon you from the heavens! I say to you what was said by the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم, and you say what Abu Bakr and Umar said?!" May Allaah grant us and you thabaat.
