The Forgotten Sunnah of at-Tarjee’ (repeating to oneself the Shahaddatan) in The Adhan.
Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله says in his book أحكام الأذان و الإقامة (Rulings of the Adhan and Iqaamah) page 20-21:
Reported from Abi Mathurah (by way of three sources), al-Haarith ibn Ubayda and Muhammad ibn Abdul Maalik ibn Abi Mathurah from his father from his grandfather who said:
"I said: Oh Messenger of Allaah! teach me the sunnah of the Adhan… And he said: to say: Allaahu Akbar (4 times) and raise your voice with it, then say I bare witness none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah (twice) and I bare witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah (twice) and lower your voice with it (first) then raise your voice with the shahaadah: I bare witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah (twice) and I bare witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah (twice), come to salaah come to salaah, come to success come to success…" (1)
This Adhan is the Adhan of the people of Makkah, and it is the saying of Shaafi’ee as at-Tirmidhi says and as reported by ibn Haazim. End of shaykh Al-Albaanee's رحمه الله words.
________________________________
1. Reported by Abu Dawuud and Ahmad, except for he mentioned the takbeer twice in it’s beginning and it’s isnaad is accepted also. At-Tirmidhi reported it and the wording for it. And An-Nasaa’ee from the path of Bishr ibn Mu’aath…
Shaykh Al-Albaane said: this sanad (chain) is Hasan: and at-Tirmidhi said: (Hadeeth Abi Mathurah in the Adhan is hadeeth saheeh and it is reported from him from other than this way).
