Holding on to Sunnah Is A Safeguard

Holding on to Sunnah Is A Safeguard Against Going Astray

Allaah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: I have left amongst you that which if you hold onto it, you will never go astray after me: the Book of Allaah and my Sunnah. As the scholars have explained, in this promise is a protection from going astray for the one who truly holds onto the Qur`an and the Sunnah - upon the correct understanding of the companions.

The truth is Clear and Apparent, and distinct from Deviation

This is why the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: I have left you upon clarity, a clear path. Its night is like its day. No one deviates from it except that he is destroyed! [Reported by Ahmad, Ibn Maajah (no. 43) and al-Haakim; declared 'saheeh' by al-Albaanee in as-Saheehah (no. 937)]

Following The Sunnah (the Prophet's Manhaj, 'Aqeedah) Leads To Jannah, and Refusal Leads to the Fire!

The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "Everyone will enter Jannah except those who refuse." It was asked, "And who would refuse, oh Messenger of Allaah?" He said, "Whoever obeys me enters Jannah, and whoever disobeys me, refuses." [al-Bukhaaree (no. 2780)]

Al-Irbaad ibn Saariyah (radialahu 'anhu) reported: One day the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) admonished us with an intense sermon which caused the hearts to fear and the eyes to shed tears, so we said: 'Oh Messenger of Allaah, this is as if it were a farewell sermon, so advise us.' He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: I order you to fear Allaah, and to hear and obey, even if you have a slave as a ruler over you. For verily, he who lives long among you will see many differences. So I order you to stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided khulafa after me... [Abu Dawood, Ahmad, Ibn Majaah, Ad-Daarimi, and at-Tirmidhee; Authentic]

Imaam Maalik (rahimahullaah) said: "The Sunnah is like Noah's Ark. Whoever embarks upon it reaches salvation and whoever refuses is drowned." Reported by Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmoo ul-Fataawaa (4/57)

Shaikh Muhammad Al-Anjaaree (hafidhahullaah) said "The life of the Sunnee revolves around the affair of him constantly reviving the Sunnah."
