Question: If a person enters the masjid and says to another person who is reciting the Qur’aan Assalaamu alaykum, is it obligatory for the person who is reciting Qur’aan to reply (by returning Salaam)?

Response:Shaykh Abdul Azeez bin Baaz رحمه الله said:“It is obligatory upon the person to reply. He should stop his recitation and return the Salaam. If the person is in Salah, he should reply (the Salaam) by jester of his hand. If the person is only reciting and he is not performing the Salah, he should stop his recitation and reply. He should say: "Assalaamu alaykum" na’am.
