The Causes of The Decrease of Imaan

Shaykh Muhammad ibn asaalih al-Uthaymeen رحمه الله said: 

From the causes of the decrease of imaan are:

First: Ignorance with the (Lofty) Names of Allaah (The Most High)، and His Descriptions necessitates a decrease of imaan, because if a person lacks knowledge of the Names of Allaah and His Attributes, this causes decrease of his  imaan. 

Second: Turning away from reflecting on the ayat of Allaah (The Most High) of Kuwniyyah (Universal) and Shar'iyyah (Legislative). For indeed this causes the decrease of imaan, or at least, stagnation and lack of growth. 

Third: Disobedience(to Allaah); indeed disobedience has a great affect upon the heart and upon the imaan. Due to this, The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said: “The fornicator does not commit fornication while he is a believer” (1)

Four: Abandoning obedience (to Allaah); indeed abandoning obedience is a cause for the decrease of Imaan...
