Belief and Understanding The Descent of Isa (May the salaat and salaam be upon him)

Taken from: Sharhus Sunnah explanation by Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan

Imaam al-Barbahaaree said in Point no. 23(‘Arabic) 26 English of his Sharhus Sunnah:

Belief in the descent of ‘Isaa ibn Marayam (may peace be upon him) He will decend and fight the Dajjaal, and will marry, and pray behind the mahdi who’s from the family of Muhammad (May the salaat and salaam be upon him) and will (then) die and be buried by the Muslimeen.

Explanation: ”He (al-Barbahaaree) said”: “IMAAN IN THE DESCENT OF ‘ISAA” It is from the major signs of the hour. “HIS DESCENT” Meaning from the heavens, because Allaah lifted him, wherein the Jews intended to kill him and they assumed they killed and crucified him, but Allaah lifted him up and they didn’t perceive it and Allaah caste the likeness (of ‘Isaa) upon another man.

Therefore they killed that man suspecting they killed the Masih (‘Isa) and it wasn’t him, Allaah ta’ala said (which translates to mean):

” And they killed him not, nor crucified him, but it was made to appear so for them.” 4:157

So Allaah caste the likeness of ‘Isaa upon this man. It is said: That this man was the one who pointed ‘Isaa out (to the Jews), therefore Allaah punished him (by doing so). It is also said: That he was a follower of ‘Isaa from the Hawaariyeen(helpers) and ‘Isaa said to him: “My likeness will be caste upon you and (for doing so) for you is the jannah, so the man was patient and accepted this likeness and was crucified and killed, because he intended the jannah with that.

HE (‘ISAA) WILL DESCEND AND FIGHT THE DAJJAAL

"’Isaa ibn Maryam will seek out the Dajjaal, when he see him, he will melt as salt melts in water then he will come close to him and hit him and kill him.”

AND HE (‘ISAA) WILL MARRY:

“It comes in some of the narrations, but it isn’t affirmed (being authentic).”

AND PRAY BEHIND THE MAHDEE FROM THE LINEAGE OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (may the salaat and salaam be upon him):

“As for him praying behind the Mahdee indeed this is affirmed… he (‘Isaa) will descend at the time of salatul Fajr, and the Muslimeen will gather for the salaah and the Mahdee will seek from him to pray with the Muslimeen (by leading) and ‘Isaa will say: “Laa, some of you for others are leaders.” so he (‘Isaa) will pray behind the Mahdee. al-Qaa’im:  the Mahdee, Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah, his name is the same as the name of the Messenger (may the salaat and salaam be upon him) and his father’s name is the same as the name as the Messenger’s father and he is from the lineage of al-Hasan son of ‘Alee (may Allaah be pleased with them).

It is said that the wisdom and Allaah knows best: That al-Hasan relinguished from the Khilaafah of Muaa’wiyyah (may Allaah be pleased with him) for the reason of not spilling the blood of the Muslimeen, so Allaah honored him and made the Mahdee from his lineage.

HE (‘ISAA) WILL DIE AND THE MUSLIMEEN WILL BURY HIM:

This is in the Qur’aan as ta’ala said (which translates to mean):

"and there is none of the people of the book, but must believe in him(Isa) before his death." 4:159

Therefore he (‘Isaa) will die as the rest of the humans die:

Allaah says which translates to mean:

“and We did not assign to any human being immortality…” 21:34

So he will die (‘alayhis salaatu was Salaam) in his later years that is what Allaah written for him, and he will be buried by the Muslimeen as they bury their dead.”

NAME MASIH:

He (‘Isaa) is called Masih: It is said: because he touches the handicaped and frees him (of his disability) by Allaah’s permission, and this is from his miracles. He will touch with his hands the blind and the leper therefore his sickness will be removed with his (‘Isaa's) touch and due to this, he is called al-Masih with the meaning of al-Maasih.”

Translated by the poor servant of Allaah in most need of His Mercy and Forgiveness.
